While this salamander does exhibit some bright blue speckles on its body, it is still a Jefferson Salamander. A hybridization of the Jefferson and Blue Spotted Salamanders have led to what is known as the Jefferson Complex salamander though in the Susquehanna River watershed studies have shown that these salamanders carry primarily the genetic code of the Jefferson Salamander.
