Upper Susquehanna Coalition Conservation Tillage Initiative:
The Initiative, coordinated by the USC Ag Coordinator, to reduce nutrient and sediment loading into the Upper Susquehanna River watershed is a basin-wide coordinated partnership of farmers, technical and scientific experts encompassing Farmer groups, Districts, Universities, Cooperative Extension, New York State Ag and Markets, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. This group meets periodically throughout the year to work out a basin wide approach to tracking and reporting low-till acreages as well as work together to target existing implementers, identify success stories, and select producers to present at regional demonstration sites, field days, winter meetings, and farmer-to-farmer network meetings. The demonstration sites and farmer networking will make information and practices developed during the project more accessible to farmers throughout the Susquehanna River Basin in New York. There will be quarterly newsletter articles available in the upcoming months that will highlight successful producers implementing low-till practices on their farms. Newsletters and relevant Conservation Tillage information will also be posted on the USC website (u-s-c.org).
